Internal Communications

I’ve been advised by my husband to calm down before sending this message, so don’t take this in a professional tone, but I think I just have to come out and say it: what the hell are you thinking with this move? And don’t deflect with that “my boss was the one who came up with this idea, if you have any questions you need answered, ask him” bullshit, we both know you’re the one with the real power in the department, so what are you planning? I want to work with you on this, and I thought I had made clear that I would support you on all endeavors (within reason), so why didn’t you at least clue me in.
In confidence that this will stay between us,

Alexandre

He went over my head. If you don’t believe me, I have attached my version of the plan for yesterday’s meeting. Excuse the brevity of this message, as I suddenly find myself swamped with preparations for this unexpected cease of diplomatic efforts.

Anders

Mr Astrimery,

I reread your message and mine with a clearer head, and find myself needing to clarify a few points.

Before starting, however, I wish to apologize for the brevity of my previous message. As a departmental leader you are surely owed a fuller explanation than the curt and, frankly, somewhat rude one that I delivered. The familiar tone we are able to take personally cannot excuse my prior message, and for that I apologize.

First, I have been informed that this move was entirely internally motivated, so if neither of us received word of it, someone is likely intentionally keeping it on a need to know basis. If I uncover any more relevant information that should be shared with you, it will be conveyed via a memo to a larger group, although you may still expect it to come from me.

Secondly, and perhaps less importantly, I must take offense to the insinuation that I am the real power behind my boss. Not only is it offensive to the great deal of time and energy that he has put in to get to the position he’s currently holding, it greatly oversells my own contributions.

Thank you for your concern, but there is no issue, and even if there was, it would be under control and out of our hands.

Anders,

I liked your first email better. Was bossman reading over your shoulder as you wrote the second one?

You’re not even in the department that should be handling this any more, if we’re going for a more aggressive approach, so you shouldn’t be so “swamped with preparations”. So either you’re just pissy that they went over your head and you’re making yourself work out of protest, or you’re hiding something from me.

Alexandre

Alexandre,

I appreciate your concern, but this is not appropriate to discuss over work channels. If you really are concerned as a professional who likes to see his work finished, we can discuss it tomorrow evening.

As a colleague and friend,

Anders

----

Anders,

Showed up to the usual place, and you weren’t there? Waited here for a while but you’re usually so punctual that it’s honestly got me a little worried.

Alexandre

----

Albertson,

Maybe you’ll respond better if I title this like I’m your boss, you always respond to him promptly.

Apparently you took a few days off sick, I hope you don’t mind that I acquired your records to check why you dropped off the damn map. Let me know when you find your way back onto it.

Not your boss,

Alexandre Astrimery

----

Alex,

Everything is perfectly alright, although I appreciate your concern. I’m sending out a multi-departmental memo with all the info that I found attached, if you have any follow ups do not send them to this address.

Anders

----

Anders,

You crazy bastard. Don’t think you can say that crap and then vanish, and not expect me to follow along. I’ll see you tonight.

Alex
